Based out of their Brussels studio, Thierry Botteman and Pierre Dozin are Belgian techno duo, Prope. Both well-renowned producers in their own rights, Thierry spent the 90s working on multi-genres projects from Trip-Hop to Underground House and was a key component of the studio teams behind Royksopp and Groove Armada. Equally, Pierre gained his 15 years of studio experience and djing starting out in Drum n Bass and working with labels such as Mute, Ninja Tune and Deutsche Grammophon.
They began working together some time ago, releasing their first track ‘ASMA’ on Audio Rehab London label in May 2017. Garnering widespread DJ support, they are now signed to a bevy of labels and have begun their own imprint, OGASM.Prope are also bimonthly resident djs on Pure Trax - RTBF, and have a monthly residency on NYC House Radio. From production to live shows, they share a passion for “stellar ambiance and vibes, deep harmonies, and heavy drops”. From production to live shows, they are accomplished producers with a unique sound.
On the 27th of February 2018 Prope released their first Ep.The ‘'Excite EP’' received broad critical acclaim and DJ support from the great and good of house and techno.Their lead track is 'Excite', an intense bit of drone-heavy techno that gets you in a trance.
The hunched drums are metallic in texture, the long synths take you down the rabbit hole and the closely stacked claps power things along as you slowly lose your mind. A 'deep mix' version gives more height and life to the drums, switching it to more of a house vibe, with stellar synths
darting about up top.
A few months after their successful first Ep, Thierry and Pierre came up with the ''State of the Oblivion'' on the 1st of June 2018. First up, the intoxicating 'Plague' features Alune Wade, a Senegalese singer based in Paris. He is a Sony Music artist and his new album has been in the top ten of the world music chart. His vocals provide a melodic and haunting bridge while the turbulent drums drive along and elastic synths bring cosmic colour to the most spine tingling of tracks.Next, 'ESC' is a real techno production designed for the clubs and sure to be lapped up by DJs everywhere. Already road tested many times by the duo, it's a dark and thrilling ride through a desolate landscape with frazzled synth stabs and freaky pads all bringing shadowy atmospheres. 'Trauma' is more raw and riveting techno with a genuine intensity. Broken beat drum patterns bring an excellently off-balance sense of rhythm to the track and spangled sci-fi pads also serve to get your mind in a spin. Last but not least, the superbly heavyweight 'Dust' is a minimal take on techno. Rolling drums carry you to a more melodic and atmospheric place with sweeping pads adding real scale.
Their last ''Void Ep'' was released on the 12th of October 2018 and it has already been launched in the charts. It features four tracks, two of which are collaborations. Opening with 'Void' the pairing of the duos is clear to see and a treat for the senses. Deeply emotive and wildly original, 'Void' sashays onto the floor and beguiles you with clever instrumentation and a solid percussive underbelly. 'Backslider' sees Prope power forward into more recognisable Techno waters. 'Another Void' sees Echo Collective take charge for a sonic journey of some merit. Powerful and understated. Rounding off the EP is the summery sounds of 'Neve'. Decidedly lighter in tone than the rest, it is no less energetic and dance floor-ready.
