Louie Vega‘s partner in crime, Kenny “Dope” Gonzales, started his DJ career in 1985 organizing neighborhood block parties in his home of Brooklyn, New York. Louie Vega and Kenny “Dope” first worked together in 1990, using the name MASTERS AT WORK, which had been given to them by mutual friend Todd Terry. The duo also produced music together under the names KenLou, Sole Fusion, Hardrive, and Nuyorican Soul. The Nuyorican Soul project had the duo working extensively with real (as opposed to sampled or synthesized) musicians, in a variety of styles including Latin, disco and jazz.
