LISA MILLET
(Defected)

BIOGRAPHY

An outstanding singer, songwriter and live performer, Lisa has enjoyed considerable recent chart successes but It is the sheer breadth of her musical output that makes her unique - covering house, soul, funk and jazz on record as well as live.

In the past  5 years she has performed vocals on 8 successful dance releases that were hits on the UK club and national charts. Three of them  " Soul Heaven", "Bad Habit" and "I Got This Feeling" all went top 20 and were also successful internationally. Her distinctive voice, not always credited on every release, is instantly recognizable and she has developed a substantial loyal live following amongst clubbers throughout the UK and Europe. At the annual Dance Awards held in Miami 2001 she was nominated for international singer of the year.

Since Lisa's debut on Sheer Bronze's "Walkin On", her working partners have included Manchester-based producers Evolution, founders of the influential progressive house label Fluid  and Paul Oakenfold with his Perfecto imprint, for whom she performed lead and backing vocals on hits by BT, Grace and the Perfecto All-stars (most notably on their UK top 5 "Reach Out").

Lisa was also vocal producer and arranger on 2000's international crossover club hit  "The Trouble With Me” alongside Black Legend's Italian producer Ciro Sasso. This renewed the creative partnership responsible for several classic club tunes of the late 90's including The Messengers' "Spread Love" and "Free".  In fact Lisa has spent a good deal of time working in Italy over the past 3 years, continuing to work with Ciro - most recently on the J Reverse track "Natural High" , for Time - and   also with Ricky Montanari on "I Believe" and  arguably most successfully with Bini & Martini.

With Bini  & Martini, Lisa co-wrote and recorded House of Glass's "Disco Down", Subsystem's "Best of Me" and "Burning Up" and even found time to perform a stunning vocal on their remix of Robbie Riviera's smash "Bang Bang". However their best work together has to be on the Goodfellas’ classic "Soul Heaven" re-released in summer 2001 by Sony's Direction label with brand new mixes by Dave Clarke and an international club hit. The song's popularity is such that it has become the brand name for a new club night and a series of accompanying mix albums on Defected.

2002 saw another entry in the UK charts with ATFC's long awaited follow up to 2000's "Bad Habit" entitled "Sleep Talk". Lisa's early work with ATFC's Aydin (alongside Warren Clarke) included the cult LabRats’ revamp of Patty LaBelle's "Music Is My Way Of Life".   Other releases over the past 2 years include Lisa's  collaborations with Copyright on "Late @ Nite" (Soulfuric) and  the Poundboys  on "Closer' both of which made the UK club chart. And most recently with Jamie Lewis on "It's Alright" ( Purple)

2001 was the year that saw Lisa finally break through as songwriter and she spent much of the year writing and producing for a new album by the inimitable Tom Jones. The two Millett songs Tom has recorded, were co-wriiten with Lisa's more leftfield collaborators - The All Seeing I - who charmed a sultry vocal and caustic lyric from her for "No Return" on their 1999 hit album "Pickled Eggs and Sherbet" - and the Lo-FI All-Stars, on the song "High Hopes.

Other leftfield partners include Ninebar, Locust and Double 99 (she sang on their 2001 club hit "Freakazoid") and most recently Lisa also started working with Latin-Jazz band Grupo-X, and appears on their debut single "Brand New Love". Throughout the last several years Lisa has maintained a separate career as a jazz singer and together with her own band she plays jazz concerts regularly in the UK and Spain.

Recently signed to Universal Music publishing Lisa  has finally been able to focus on her songwriting and recording. It is her love for jazz and soul fused with funk and house grooves that inspired her work on  a new album  project - Buttaball - an album made up of elements of all the styles that make up her musical complexion. 2004 closed with Lisa about to sign to Defected Records and  releasing  two new singles through them in the new year- one with  Warren Clark -  on his Soul Rebels track" I'll Be Good" and the second her first proper solo release "Be My Love" produced by  Mark Knight.
