2011 has been a busy year so far for the Freemason. They are currently working on Yasmin's new album for Ministry of Sound following the success of remix 'Finish Line' which reached Top 10 in the charts.
Touring all summer, they have performed a number of high profile appearances including: The White Party (Palm Springs), Bal Au Blanc (Montreal), World DJ Day (Seoul), Gay Disney (Florida), Gay Pride (Zurich), Gay Pride (Sao Paulo), Summer Festival (Antwerp), Day & Night Festival (Croatia), The Society (Sao Paolo).
The most anticipated dance track of the year so far 'Love On My Mind' by Freemasons featuring Amanda Wilson gets released on Loaded Records in August 2005.
Already an anthem from the early copies that sneaked out before Christmas, it's been played five weeks in a row on both Pete Tong and Judge Jules' Radio One shows, topped both the Buzz chart and the Cool Cuts and looks set to be as big as last year's 'Lola's Theme' by Shapeshifters. Here's hoping!
Freemasons are Russell Small and James Wiltshire. Russell enjoyed chart success with Phats and Small in the late 90s, selling over 2 million records world-wide and notching up four top 20 hits. James has also worked with the likes of Donna Summer, Texas and Kylie remix-masters Brothers In Rhythm.
Vocalist Amanda Wilson was discovered down the local karaoke bar. "We found Amanda singing karaoke," says Russell. "We were just blown away by her voice, she's got that soulful thing going on so we approached her and she was really up for it. It took two hours from start to finish once Amanda was on board."
With the track complete, Russ and James headed down to their local, The Freemasons; "Our name came about as a result of a rather cunning deal hatched with the landlord of the pub," explains Russ. "We were having a drink and we were really stuck as to what to call ourselves. The landlord had said if the track got to # 1 he'd give us free drinks for life - we shook on it immediately so it seemed only fair to name ourselves after the pub."
The track came about due to an old Jackie Moore track, 'This Time Baby' from Atlantic Records. "I'd wanted to use the sample for years," says Russ, "I remember when we finished it, we bumped into so many people that had wanted to use it but we got there first."
'Love On My Mind' comes with excellent remixes from King Unique and the Sharp Boys.
