The two brothers from Greek origin were raised in Belgium, the country with the deepest roots in electronic music. Inspired by those great sounds, Dimitri was spinnin records before even being legally allowed to enter a club, while Mike’s roots lie in the bangin’ beats of hiphop.
After spending years travelling across Europe together, they ended up in Ibiza, the heart & soul of house music... Inf...luenced by all the great artists that crossed their path during their stay on the ‘White Island’, they decided to return to Belgium after a couple of years and work on their future together as ‘Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike’Altough we live in a digital age with an overflow of new artists and talents, Dimitri & Mike managed to put their mark on the scene in the past years. Releasing tracks and remixes on the same labels as Eric Prydz, John Dahlback, Deadmau5, Steve Angello & Sebastian Ingrosso, Laidback Luke, Tocadisco, Tom Novy,... just to name a few.
Their tracks can be found on countless compilation- & mixed CD’s and in the recordscases of topjocks like David Guetta, Erick Morillo, Paul Van Dyk, Bob Sinclar, TV Rock, DubFire, Dirty South,... and of course Tiesto, who has been hammering their work on his Clublife Radioshow and his countless gigs worldwide.They were featured a couple of times on Pete Tong’s Essential Mix ( BBC Radio One ), in the sets of Swedish House Mafia, Dave Spoon & Roger Sanchez, who nominated their ‘Love Can’t Turn Around’ as one of his Ibiza Favorites of 2008. Their talent got spotted by Axwell, who really liked their rework of ‘Work That Body’, which was an international clubhit and big seller on Beatport.
He asked the guys to remix his new Axtone release by Abel Ramos. ‘Rotterdam City Of Love’ was an instant seller that dominated the charts of virtually every downloadplatform.
Ax used the Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike version to create his ‘Missing Rotterdam’ bootleg, that was one of the most sought-after tracks of the year. They kept a good contact and just before the summer Dimitri & Mike got the opportunity to remix the biggest track of the year : Axwell Angello & Ingrosso ft Laidback Luke & Deborah Cox _ Leave The World Behind.
Their remix was the hype of Ibiza 2009, as the SHM-guys hammered it on their weekly Dark Forest residency at Pacha Ibiza, Sensation White, ID&T Tomorrowland, Creamfields... only a chosen few key-dj’s got the track in their hands, leaving the rest of the scene drooling for the release. After finally being dropped in september, the ‘Dimitri Vegas & Like Mike vs Swedish House Mafia Dark Forest Edit’ went to the Beatport Top 20 after only a day and has got a massive support worldwide.Of course it’s not all remixes, the brothers have quite some succesfull own productions on their name. Working with quite a few alter ego’s, it’s hard to track down sometimes...
They scored a N°1 in Belgium with their ‘DNM-Liquid Skies’ and their ‘Under The Water’ has been getting licencing requests going from the South of Africa, to USA and Europe,... with a massive remixpackage on the way including mixes by Abel Ramos, Dada Life, Sebastian Drums,... the release was an instant-classic. Furthermore they are working quite close with Joia/Nero Records, who gave them their first big break way back to release their first NoiseFreak Ep and do some succesfull remixes for some of their releases like David Tort ‘Acid’ & Albin Myers ‘Times Like These’ and also the clubmonster ‘Tim Berg – Alhoholic’. Also D.O.N.S. asked them to remix his ‘Earth Song’, made especially for “Dance 4 Life”, the AIDS awareness association, where Tiesto, Faithless & Paul Van Dyk have worked with in the past.
Even Snoop Dogg requested their services for his new ‘Get Your Groove On’ release with Timati.
Although this can’t be announced officially, when researching a bit, you can also find that the brothers made some of the hottest bootlegs of the past years with spins from all the biggest Dj’s.As a team, they played a clubs & events like ID&T Tomorrowland (Belgium), CityParade (Belgium), Amsterdam Dance Event ( Holland), Circoloco (Belgium), Space (Ibiza), Prestige (Ibiza), Martina (Ibiza), Café D’Anvers (BE) , Amnesia ( Greece ) , Beau Club ( Greece ) , La Rocca (BE), Versuz (BE), Noxx (BE), Illusion (BE), Area51 (IT) and many more.
They don’t just bring a DJ-set, but a unique live performance. By combining Dimitri’s beats with Mike’s voice, they found a unique style playing together, entertaining the crowd with cd’s, decks, fx and of course… the mic!
Their live sets range from “hands in the air” peak time, dance floor-destructing electro beats, to a deeper minimal sound and uplifting techy vibes.
The brothers are also known for an energetic and fun performance. “We try to make our set a great clubbing experience for everyone, we bring a cocktail of electro and tech-house on the rocks, with a touch of techno and minimal... shaken not stirred. We definitely don’t like to be branded with a style, the direction we take our set all depends on the crowd, but we only play music that gets under our skin... and that has always worked so far”!Under the wings of ID&T...
The future looks bright for the brothers, with some very strong upcoming remixes & new releases on a few more big labels… like remixes for Tiesto, Nelly Furtdado, John Dahlback, Technotronic,... even a collaboration with Duran Duran’s Andy Taylor.
But most importantly : they are kicking off their own label : SMASH.. dropping collaborations with Dada Life, Tara McDonald, Albin Myers, Vangosh,...
