Take one London singer-songwriter of Ghanian descent who cites hip-hop, r&b and sound systems as his music of choice.
Add one London writer-producer who can trace his dance roots back to 1988’s Summer of Love.Flavour with a healthy dose of funk, a dash of house, a pinch of jungle, and more than a little bit of reggae for good measure. Blend well, then marinate for a decade through a studio and a sound system.
Finally add one album, 12 new tracks and an international tour diary that criss-crosses the globe.
Panos Liassi aka Mister P and Andrew Tumi aka One are the two musical halves who make up UK band/sound system Supafly Inc, and could easily be described as a cross between the UK’s answer to the Black Eyed Peas, Morcheeba and Groove Armada.
Meeting up through a personal ad in the music papers back in 1997, Mister P had already had considerable success after being involved with influential dance bands Homeboy, Hippy and a Funky Dread and manufacturing Amen UK. One bought with him Afro-influenced beats and a knack for writing tracks that fitted perfectly with Mister P’s own lyrical prowess.
Constantly buried in the studio, Supafly Inc have created and fused a sound that meshes and melts together their different cultural and musical backgrounds. After working together, success finally came in 2005 when the pair released the hands-in-the-air summer smash hit Let’s Get Down, which charted globally and featured across a deluge of international compilations.
Let’s Get Down was followed with the just-as-huge Moving Too Fast.Supafly Inc were on a roll and began what was essentially a three-year-long world tour. The band took to the skies, touching down everywhere from Russia, ex-Soviet states, Australia, Europe, UK, Asia and parts of Africa.
Their infamous live show has wowed crowds in excess of 25,000 and ensures their vibe stays fresh and out in the mass consciousness.
Now the band stands poised to raise the bar even higher with the imminent release of their first studio album, Happiness. Infectious, melodic, colourful and with an unashamedly positive vibe, Happiness is like sunshine on a plate and is already attracting attention from tastemakers across the board. Lead single Catch Me When I’m Falling hits stands in early September, with plays predicted across national radio and major TV throughout the summer, placing Supafly perfectly for a massive assault on the charts.
With rough cuts of a second album already in the can and a full package of remixes for Catch Me When I’m Falling set to rock club-land alongside the commercial charts, the sky really is looking like the limit for Supafly Inc.
